Dream Drives BHM began in 2021 with a single, meaningful moment. As Layne McDougal’s son prepared for his wedding day, he envisioned a classic getaway car – something timeless, elegant, and worthy of the moment. Inspired by that dream, and eager to become part of Birmingham’s wedding community, Layne acquired a 1951 Packard convertible affectionately named Ruby. That first ride marked the beginning of something truly special.
Following Ruby’s debut, Dream Drives quickly evolved. In 2022, the collection expanded with the addition of a 1942 Packard Clipper and a 1958 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud – each chosen for its beauty, history, and unmistakable presence. The story came full circle in July of 2023 with the arrival of Charlotte, a 1961 Rolls-Royce whose refined elegance completed the fleet.
Today, Dream Drives proudly offers Birmingham and the surrounding areas a thoughtfully curated collection of vintage automobiles. Each vehicle is selected with intention, preserved with care, and driven with pride – ready to frame life’s most meaningful moments. More than transportation, these cars are part of the celebration, carrying couples into their future surrounded by history, romance, and unforgettable style.
A Message from Layne:
“All four of our automobiles are special to Dream Drives, as well as to my family and me personally. We love these cars and are proud of them, giving them the respect they deserve because they are from a golden age in automotive history. We feel an obligation to maintain them and drive them with utmost care. We love having the opportunity to share these beautiful vehicles from a by-gone era with others and to hear stories from people who have memories of older cars. We also believe it’s an honor to drive newlyweds away from their wedding reception to begin their lives together!
This journey has been a learning experience in multiple ways. It reflects lots of hard work but has been very rewarding! We have met so many wonderful people through the wedding industry, families and guests at events, newlyweds, as well as automobile mechanics, collectors, and even strangers asking for a photo.”
Our Vehicles and Chauffeurs
Dream Drives vehicles possess required commercial licenses, have passed all safety inspections, and are insured. Our professional chauffeurs are men of highest character, insured, specially trained, and knowledgeable of these cars. They possess a valid driver’s license and maintain excellent driving credentials.
Dream Drives does not drive more than 100 miles outside of metropolitan Birmingham. For a wedding, the selected automobile will sport the traditional English Bridal Bow on her bonnet (hood).
