The Blog

When picturing the typical wedding day morning, we often think of the bride and her bridesmaids sipping mimosas, getting their hair and makeup done, and capturing those beautiful “getting ready” photos. But what exactly are the groom and his groomsmen up to before the wedding? Here’s a look at what the guys might be up to before saying “I do.”

1. Playing Pool or Poker

The laid-back atmosphere of a pool or poker game allows everyone to unwind, enjoy a drink, and celebrate their friendship in a low-pressure environment. Whether they’re at a local bar, a private man cave, or a hotel lounge, this can offer a great chance for guys to relax, joke around, and share memories before the big day.

2. Watching Football or Other Sports

For those weddings that fall during a major sport season, watching a game together is a must. If you time it right, you can gather around a TV, order some snacks, and let the pre-wedding nerves take a backseat to friendly banter and team loyalty. Pre shows like “College Gameday” offer a great alternative for those earlier mornings before game time.

3. Grab lunch or hit the brewery

Before the wedding, grooms and groomsmen need some fuel to get through the day. A relaxed brewery visit or a casual lunch is a fun way to take the edge off before the wedding. Many grooms and their groomsmen enjoy a cold beer (or two) while chatting about everything from their best man speech to the upcoming wedding events. It’s a chance to catch up, laugh, and just relax before the day’s events get serious.

4. Golfing with the Guys

If there’s time in the schedule and the weather’s right, teeing off with the guys is a classic groom’s day tradition. Golf allows for a bit of friendly competition, some quiet moments, and fresh air — all good things before the vows. Whether you have time to play a full 18 holes or just the front nine, golf is an ideal way to start your wedding day or wedding weekend.

5. Enjoy the Outdoors

Some groomsmen prefer to take it slow and escape to nature before the excitement of the wedding begins. Whether it’s a peaceful morning of fishing at a nearby lake, a quick hiking trip, or shooting skeet, these outdoor activities offer the groomsmen a moment of calm before the festivities. Depending on your venue, these might even be an option on site.
