Classic cars. Modern cameras. Vintage soul.
One of the unexpected joys of owning classic cars is seeing the stunning photographs captured during the weddings and events they’re part of. Because our cars are woven into these celebrations especially those iconic getaway scenes – we’re lucky to receive images from so many talented photographers.
Every now and then, a photo stops us in our tracks. Black and white. Still. Cinematic. Other than the clarity of the camera, it could have been taken in 1995, 1970… 1954… or even earlier. These photos don’t just document a moment, they transport us.
One striking image of the Kendricks’ November 2023 wedding, taken by Penni Lauren in front of The Theodore, feels like something straight out of a Humphrey Bogart movie. The lights, the angle, the stillness – it’s pure 1940’s cinema magic.
Another example? The photos Shelby Willoughby captured of Maggie and Kyle Raburn’s exit from Independent Presbyterian Church. Our ’42 Packard Clipper escorting these newlyweds to their reception with Highland Avenue in the foreground. Besides the modern curb, this image could easily have been taken 80 years ago.
If These Cars Could Talk…
Sometimes I wonder what our ’42 Packard Clipper, ’51 Packard Convertible, or ’58 and ’61 Rolls-Royce Silver Clouds would say if they could speak. They’ve witnessed so much (newlyweds, dreamers, dignitaries) and rolled through decades of change.
They’ve passed by buildings that have stood for generations and over roads where the landscapes barely resemble what they once were. They’ve carried people through big moments, both historic and deeply personal. We feel honored to be a part of these moments in families lives. Both an exhilarating exciting wedding, anniversary or milestone celebration or moving and sad because of the loss of a loved one in a funeral procession. We are there for you during these precious moments.
A Slower, Sweeter Time
Before smartphones and podcasts, riding in a car meant looking out the window. Talking. Laughing. Listening to the radio – if the station didn’t fade out once you left town. Car rides were filled with glances, storytelling, and shared silence. They were filled with moments like: Proposals practiced, fancy parties, family outings. Goodbyes whispered and shouts of hello. Songs sung together on backroads or cruising the city.
History in the Rearview Mirror
These cars have overheard conversations about World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. They’ve played rock and roll, crooned along with Elvis, and helped passengers marvel at The Beatles’ British invasion. They’ve watched teenagers cruise Main Street like something out of Happy Days, while elders muttered that the world was changing too fast. They’ve seen soldiers come home, Sunday suits come and go, and mothers cradling babies in front seats – long before car seats were even imagined.
Calgon, Take Me Away…
Sometimes I think of the 1961 Calgon commercial – the woman soaking in a bath, sighing, “Calgon, take me away!”
That’s the kind of escapism our vintage cars offer, too. A dreamy moment, a chance to feel transported to a time when things moved slower and felt more glamorous.
And let’s be honest – if stepping out of a classic car could make us look as effortlessly chic as that woman? Count me in!
A Ride Through Time
These aren’t just cars. They’re rolling pieces of living history.
They still turn heads.
They still start conversations.
They still help people make memories.
And thanks to the artistry of today’s photographers – those with an eye for mood, light, and nostalgia – those memories often look like they were taken lifetimes ago.
